This is not a common news of ADAS&ME project. The consortium is developing a number of actions in the most of work packages and use cases and preparing the next plenary meeting that will take place in Bologna at the end of this month. However, today we would like to highlight the following headline from the influential magazine QUARTZ: “Waymo’s self-driving car crashed because its human driver fell asleep at the wheel“. The text says that “the safety driver unwittingly turned off the car’s self-driving software by touching the gas pedal”. Hence, the driver failed to assume the control of the steering wheel and the crash was unavoidable. Happily, the consequences were mainly material damages but all of us know that it could be worse and it emphasize the importance of HMI.
